We could use KeyGuard in our programming, allowing us to use the number strip (or number pad) on the keyboard to activate commands programmed by the player (like use a potion, or switch weapon). Any comments?

Do-able and will add to the gameplay (with the player actually selecting the sortcuts) but programming with KG can mess a lot of things up. Will take it into concideration though.
